FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Thank you for visiting the Committee for County Progress' website. For over 40 years we have been Jackson County's leading Democratic organization. With 150 members, we represent some of the best and the brightest in Jackson County. Our membership, while limited to those who live in the County, is diverse is race, gender, economic background and geographic location.

2006 was an exciting year for the Committee for County Progress and Democrats. We hosted fundraisers, including a visit by Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack. We then wisely used our financial and human resources to support progress Democrats. Our organization had endorsed Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders and helped celebrate his victory. The Committee for County Progress mailed out what many consider one of the best mail pieces - to the largest group of potential voters - in 2006. Our endorsement brought contributions, direct mailers and volunteers.

Many of our members supported United States Senator Claire McCaskill, a former Committee for County Progress member. We were one of the first organizations to endorse Senator McCaskill in her race for governor in 2004 and the CCP's membership worked hard for her election in 2006. As one of six new Democratic Senators in Washington, which changed the majority from Republican control to Democratic control, we are proud of our former member, Claire McCaskill.

2007 will bring many challenges to our organization as we work to keep our membership up to date, as we host forums to keep citizens informed on the issues of the day and as we fundraiser to ensure progressive candidates will have the resources they need to compete. The Committee for County Progress will continue to work with our friends across Jackson County to elect a Democrat to the Missouri Governor's Mansion, to change the majority in the Missouri House and the Senate and ensure the Jackson County Legislature continues its progressive traditions.

If you would like to become more involved in our organization, please email us. We would love to have you.

-- Stephen R. Bough, President
